To provide a temporary home away from home  that serves and sustains families of children being treated at area hospitals; to offer families of hospitalized children the opportunity to refresh, rest and reflect within or near the treatment center; to deliver cost-effective medical, dental and educational services to underserved children in their neighborhood; and to provide support to organizations that serve the needs of children.

Quick Facts

  • The Ronald McDonald House of Arkansas was established in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1980. A 60-year old home next door to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock was purchased in 1979 and remodeled into an eight bedroom home and in 1986, with financial assistance from the Central Arkansas McDonald’s Owner/Operators, the House built an expansion in an effort to accommodate the growing needs of the families.
  • The present house has 21 private bedrooms, four large dormitory type bathrooms, two fully equipped kitchens, comfortable living room, play room, large multi purpose family/dining room and laundry rooms serving families and parents who have children receiving treatment at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
  • An additional 4 private bedrooms, kitchen, dining/living area, bathrooms, laundry facilities and one apartment for a long term family are offered to some adults and juvenile cancer patients receiving treatment as out-patients at ACRC, CARTI, and Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
  • Nearly 18,000 families have stayed at a Ronald McDonald House of Arkansas since it opened in 1980.
  • In 2005 the Ronald McDonald House of Arkansas served 925 families.
  • Ronald McDonald House Charities was named one of America’s “100 Best Charities” by Worth Magazine
  • Ronald McDonald House Charities is one of only three nonprofits recognized by America’s Greatest Brands (AGB).
